Oak Lanes
Congratulations to Brad Gray for winning his 3rd SSO title at Oak Lanes in Westland. Gray defeated Pete Kaczmarczyk 213-192 in the title match. In the championship match, carry issues plagued both bowlers – Gray left five 7-pins, while Kaczmarczyk left five 10-pins. Unfortunately for Kaczmarczyk, a missed 10-pin in the 7th frame proved to be costly, Gray was able to catch a 3-bagger and stay clean the rest of the way to capture the title. Gray received $1,000 for his first-place finish while Kaczmarczyk, looking for his fourth title, collected $500 for second. We had another great turnout of 88 bowlers at Oak Lanes.
During qualifying, Hall of Famer Gerald Johnson was the story, setting a new 6 game qualifying record with a score of 1414, which included two 300 games. Gerald posted games of 300-251-247-300-278-238, outdistancing second qualifier Troy Stus by 105 pins (1509).
The cut to make the top 22 was 1372 (Dave Alef). Our extras out of the cut to move on in the elimination rounds were Joey Hickey (1370), Gerald Kopec (1369), Pete Kaczmarczyk (1366), Rick Wayne (1362), and Dave Schumacher (1360) from the super senior division (60+); Arnie Goldman (1344) and Gary Treier (1314) via the super-super senior division (70+). Our one additional lady was Kimeyata Hollowell (1307).
