To all members, Directors and supporters of the SSO, December 5, 2016
The SSO for 2016 set new records for attendance, averaging over 80 entries per event. Not bad considering we began this tournament well short of 40 entries. We have grown in size and stature to become not only Michigan’s premier senior tournament, but also one of the best in America. I can only thank all of you that have participated, helped promote, and come out to root for your favorite bowlers. Without all of you this would be just an average tournament.
For 2017, I have raised my expectations. We are expanding our schedule to 17 events, including for the first time a stop in neighboring Windsor. I am very excited about the prospect of crossing the border to entice our Canadian friends into competing in the SSO.
I’m also excited to announce that there will be a couple of rule changes, in particular, the addition of a Super Super Senior division which will, with 4 or more participants in any one given event, will be guaranteed one into the “Survival Elimination” rounds. The same rule will hold true for women, ages 40 and above.
Our Grand Finals which just concluded saw a record 100 entries and over $21,000 in prize money! Even I’m blown away by these numbers. Of course, I’m also hopeful that our numbers will grow for some time to come.
I want to say that no matter the outcome of any of our tournaments, I would never purposely try to skew the conditions in order to give an unfair advantage to either side. I also realize that lane conditions are an imperfect science. I will try to learn from any mistakes that I may have made. The last thing I need is to have the SSO’s or my own integrity to be in question or doubt.
Finally, I fully appreciate all of your participation in the SSO. I hope that you all have a safe and blessed Holiday and look forward to seeing you in 2017.
