Congratulations to Mike Calvin for winning his first SSO Tournament defeating Gerald Johnson in a close final match of 247 to 236. Mike took away the $1,100.00 first place prize and trophy. A congratulations also goes out to Gerald for his second place finish winning our $600.00 prize cheque. Low to cash received $150.
This month's tournament took place at Cherry Hill Lanes in Dearborn Heights Mi. We had a record high of 79 bowlers in attendance. The oiling pattern for this month was the Kegal Challenge Seriesl Route 66 condition.
The tournament average this month was 195, High Qualifier was Mike Firzak with 1470 averaging 245 for his 6 games. It took an average of 211 after 6 games to qualify for our regular seniors. 23 bowlers advanced to the Elimination Rounds. Anthony Arriington was the regular senior to advance below the cut line. Jim Sherlock and Nick Beelaard were the two super seniors to advance. Super seniors had to average better than 203 this month to make the eliminations cut.
Dick Selgo had the highest game of the day with 300 in game two of qualifying. There were no other honor scores. Our highest series was 793 by Mike Firzak in his first three games.
The SSO would like to provide more tournaments with a wider variety of formats. We'd enjoy bringing you two events per month once in a while. One would be our regular format and one would be one of our "Special" tournaments. We're discussing a "Non Winners" tournament, a "Doubles Tournament" (regular or baker format), a "High-Low Doubles" and a "Super Senior Tournament" to mention a few. What do you think? 30 out of our 79 entries were Super Seniors, making up 38% of our turnout. 7 out of 23, or 30% of our Super Senior bowlers made up this month's elimination rounds or 23% of all our Super Seniors made the cut.
