This Tournament has to go down in history as the most difficult, stressful and pressure packed event we have ever organized and make come to fruition. We had to change venues from Michigan to Ohio just to be able to bowl. This became venue change (change #1). We thought we were ready but this was not to be. On the Friday before the tournament and about 10 p.m. with the day almost over, we come to find out we require another venue change (change #2) Needless to say this came as a complete surprise to everyone. A special thank you to Lew and all the Directors, staff and volunteer helpers who pitched in to make this happen in such short notice.
I am woman, hear me roar.... Congratulations to Stacey Timmer on winning her first SSO Championship. She's the second female to win an SSO Championship. Stacey defeated our last tournament champion Bill Froberg in the final match 209 to 205 taking home the beautiful crystal pin trophy and the $1800 top prize. Bill sat down after the final match ending with a triple in the 10th. forcing Stacey to get a double and 7 pins to win. Stacey chose to finish the match and now that moment had come. She threw her own triple in the 10th winning the match and the tournament in great fashion. Stacey also qualified on top while averaging 257 after her first 6 games with a 1540 total pin fall. THIS IS AN SSO ALL TIME 6 GAME QUALIFYING RECORD! After 4 more rounds of Eliminations her total pin fall was 2444 or just 4 pins short of tying Gerald Johnson's Dec. 2017th record of 2448. She advanced through the stepladder finals with games of 212, 220, 215 and 257 gaining her a chance at an SSO Title. It's also worth noting Stacey's first three games of the day totaled 798.
Congratulations also to Bill Froberg on his second place finish winning the $1400 second place prize and another beautiful crystal trophy. Bill was our last tournament champion so he could have achieved back to back wins should he have won this event. Bill qualified in 11th with a total pin fall of 1360 after his first six games. Now after 4 more rounds of Eliminations, he finishes 4th in our Stepladder Finals.
Froberg now gets matched up with our #5 seed, Rick Wayne and prevails in a close match of 219 to 214. Congratulations goes out to Rick Wayne on his 5th place finish and our $1000.00 fifth place prize.
Bill now advances to meet our #3 seed, Roland Franklin. Froberg picks up the pace in this match shooting his highest stepladder game of 234 defeating Rolands 219 game. Congratulations to Franklin on his 4th place finish and taking home our $1100.00 prize.
Froberg moves on to face our #2 seed, Bruce Wright. Unfortunately both contestants bowl their lowest games of the day. Bills lowest game of the day, a 192, ended up beating Wrights disappointing 168 lowest game of the day. Wright had a very nice 290 game out of the gate. Congratulations just the same goes to Bruce's 3rd place finish, taking home our $1200.00 prize.
This month's tournament average was 210.
We had 89 bowlers in attendance this month. There were 31 super seniors, 11 super super seniors with the rest of our seniors.
We also had 44 bowlers in our Elimination Rounds, 14 SS and 2 SSS along with the rest of our seniors. This provided close to 1 out of 2 cashing ratio for the tournament.
High Qualifier for the first time is a female and now record holder, Stacey Timmer with a 6 game total of 1540 averaging 257. Once again congratulations are in order.
There were two 290 games, one by Bruce Wright and the other by Steve Kenyon both coming in the first game of qualifying.
Finally we would like to congratulate Gerald Johnson on once again winning the SSO Bowler of the Year award for 2020. This is Gerald's 7th BOTY win!
