JAX 60 Over/Under Doubles
Congratulations to Jeff Austreng and Charles Easton for winning the SSO Over/Under doubles tournament at JAX 60 in Jackson. Austreng and Easton defeated Gary Duarard and Justin O’Hara 440-368. In the title match, it was Easton who figured out the tricky championship pair shooting a 247, while partner Jeff Austreng grinded out a 193. Duarard and O’Hara couldn’t get anything going, carding a 180 & 188 respectively. Austreng, winning his 4th SSO title, and Easton received $5000 for their first-place finish while Duarard and O’Hara collected $2500 for second. For Easton, this was his 3rd SSO doubles title, winning twice with Steve Jakubowski in 2017 & 2019.
We had 77 teams vying for the title at JAX 60. Scores were mixed during the qualifying rounds, as the Over 50 bowlers averaged 205.47 and the Under 50 bowlers averaged 212.86. Austreng and Easton led qualifying with an impressive score of 2955, while the cut to make the 24-team elimination round was 2605 (Emmanuel Madden/Willie Price). High scores during qualifying included 300 games by Austreng and Kyle King, 299 and a 297 by Alex Horton, and Anthony Dimuzio with a 297 in game one of the competition.
