Congratulations to Jeff Austreng for winning his 1st Midwest Senior Masters title at 300 Bowl in Waterford. Austreng defeated Gerald Johnson 410-360 in the championship match. Austreng, who qualified 8th during Saturday’s six game qualifying round with 1329, never lost in match play defeating Dave Schumacher 474-419, Stacy Keith 432-379, Dave Rokicki 503-381, Mike Rochowiak 492-332, and Gerald Johnson 475-380.

Congratulations to Jim DePlanche on his 1st SSO title as he defeated Ed Austreng 214-194 at 300 Bowl in Waterford. The championship match looked like it might be a rout as Austreng started strong with strike, spare, double, while DePlanche started with three straight ten pins, missing one of them in the 2nd frame. Both bowlers finished the match struggling to put strikes together, however the turning point was the 7th frame, Austreng hit the pocket but left an unfortunate 8-10 split, while DePlanche was fortunate to carry a Brooklyn strike in the 8th frame, which he capitalized on by throwing strikes in the 9th, 10th and 11th frames to seal the victory. DePlanche received the first-place check of $1,000, while Austreng, looking for his second SSO title, collected $500 for second.

Congratulations to Gerald Little on his 1st SSO title as he defeated Jamie Adams 224-158 at our non-champions event at Century Bowl in Waterford. Little becomes the oldest champion in SSO history at 73 years old! In the championship match, both Little and Adams found strikes hard to come by, especially on the left lane which seemed to be quite a bit tighter than the right. The turning point was the 7th frame when Adams went high leaving the Greek church. Little was steady all match filling frames and catching a double early and a turkey late to seal the victory.

Congratulations to Mark Brown on his 1st SSO title as he defeated Chris Toyias 258-193 at Lodge Lanes in Belleville. In the championship match, Brown started with three strikes, while Toyias opened in two of his first three frames, giving Brown a big lead early and he never looked back.

Congratulations to Craig Bosco on his 2nd SSO title as he defeated Hall of Famer Mike Calvin 255-215 at Oak Lanes in Westland. In the championship match, Bosco took an early lead starting with the front 4 strikes, while Calvin opened in the 2nd frame chopping the 6-10 spare. However, after three straight 10 pins by Bosco, Calvin charged back with five strikes in a row himself. A 10 pin in the 8th frame and a 9 pin in the 10th for Calvin, which he missed, proved his undoing. Bosco threw the first two strikes in the 10th to make a close match look like a runaway. Bosco received the first-place check of $1,000, while Calvin, looking for his 11th SSO title, collected $500 for second. We had 83 entries at Oak Lanes, thank you to everyone for your continued support of the SSO!

Congratulations to Mike Snow on his 2nd SSO title as he defeated Troy Stus 235-223 at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights. In the championship match, both players were able to catch at least one double going into the 9th frame. Stus was first to finish and could have shut out Snow, however in the 9th left a wall shot 5 pin, and in the 10th left a 10 pin on his first shot, sparing and finishing with 223. Snow, needed the first strike in the 10th then 9 spare for the win. Mike left no doubt in the outcome striking out for 235. Snow, ironically winning his first tournament at Astro Lanes back in 2018, received the first-place check of $1,000, while Stus, looking for his 7th SSO title, collected $550 for second.

Congratulations to Larry Wilson on his 1st SSO title as he defeated Marty Sanders 233-176 at Spins Super Bowl in Canton. In the championship match, Sanders, who averaged 266 in the 4 previous elimination round games, found it difficult to strike on the championship pair, only throwing one strike in the first six frames. Meanwhile, Wilson started strong and never let up, striking in 7 of his first 9 frames, coasting to his first SSO title. Wilson received the first-place check of $1,000, while Sanders, looking for his third SSO title, collected $500 for second.

Congratulations to Hall of Famer Ken Wyatt on his 16th SSO title as he defeated Brian Thompson 238-192 at Woodland Lanes in Livonia. In the championship match, Wyatt started fast with a spare 4-bagger, while Thompson had carry issues most of the game, failing to put a double together finishing with a clean 192 game. Wyatt had a late double in the 9th & 10th frame to seal the victory. Wyatt received the first-place check of $1,000, while Thompson, looking for his first title, collected $500 for second. We had a full house of 96 bowlers at Woodland Lanes, thank you to everyone for your continued support of the SSO!

Congratulations to Dominic Emmi for winning his 1st SSO title at Summit Entertainment Center in Washington. Emmi defeated Hall of Famer Troy Stus 215-211 in the title match. In the championship match, strikes were not easy to come by on a demanding condition. Emmi caught a 4-bagger in frames 3-6, with the help of a nose-dive strike in the 4th, while Stus threw a double in frames 3-4. The fifth frame was costly for Stus, leaving the bucket then chopping it for an open. Emmi returned the favor in the 8th frame leaving an unfortunate pocket 7-9 split, cracking the door open for Stus. Stus immediately struck out in the 9th and 10th frame for 211, forcing Emmi to mark with count to win. Emmi got the best mark of all, a clutch strike the first ball in the 10th to clinch his first title.

Congratulations to Jay Lang and John Kelley for winning the SSO Over/Under doubles tournament at JAX 60 in Jackson. Lang and Kelley defeated our Canadian friends Joe Ciach and Ryan Setton 429-408.
