Galaxy Lanes
Congratulations to Mike Calvin for winning his 7th SSO title at Galaxy Lanes in Grand Blanc. Calvin defeated Gary Duarard 228- 192 in the title match. In the championship match, this looked like it was going to be a blowout, with Calvin starting the match missing a 10 pin, while Duarard opened with a triple. However, Duarard had an open of his own as he struggled later in the match on the left lane. Calvin strung together strikes in the middle of the game to take the lead and never looked back. Calvin received $1,000 for his first-place finish while Duarard, looking for his second title, collected $500 for second. We had another great turnout of 95 bowlers at Galaxy Lanes.
Rick Shawver was our high qualifier with an impressive 1494. Right behind Shawver was Peter Senf (1462), Brad Gray (1451), and John Shreve Jr. and Keith McDonald (1404). The cut to make the top 23 was 1370 (Lamont Neal). Our extras out of the cut to move on in the elimination rounds were Brian Esterle (1354) in the senior division (50+); Larry Walker (1361), Keith Engling (1335), Pete Kaczmarczyk (1328), and Fred Baldwin (1320) from the super senior division (60+); Jeff Suma (1346) and Lew Ansara (no, this is not a mis-print, great bowling Lew!) (1213) via the super-super senior division (70+). Our one additional lady was Toary Taylor (1258).
Thank you to Ken Hochstein and the rest of the staff at Galaxy Lanes for hosting the SSO. The SSO would also like to thank our staff and our sponsors; Brunswick Bowling Products, Red Robin, Beyond Boarders, Turbo 2 in 1 Grips, Hamtramck Singles Classic, A.M. Our next tournament will be April 5th at Jax60 Lanes in Jackson. This is the first of two over/under doubles tournaments for 2025. This field is limited to 108 teams, so please sign up online or contact Lew Ansara or Ken Wyatt if you would like to bowl.
