Midwest Senior Masters – 300 Bowl – August 29-30, 2026

Congratulations to Jeff Austreng for winning his 1st Midwest Senior Masters title at 300 Bowl in Waterford. Austreng defeated Gerald Johnson 410-360 in the championship match. Austreng, who qualified 8th during Saturday’s six game qualifying round with 1329, never lost in match play defeating Dave Schumacher 474-419, Stacy Keith 432-379, Dave Rokicki 503-381, Mike Rochowiak 492-332, and Gerald Johnson 475-380. Johnson, who qualified 19th during the qualifying round with 1288, began his journey through match play with wins over Dave Lucero 398-337, Bobby Nelson 407-340, Rusty Walter 393-356, Cliff Crawford 399-395, before suffering his first defeat to Austreng 475-380. Once in the loser’s bracket, Johnson defeated Jerry Choate 441-348. Johnson, who then needed to defeat Austreng twice, started out game one of the title match with a tie at 188. Austreng made a great ball change in game two to string a few strikes together and pulled away in game as Johnson couldn’t get anything going on a demanding lane pattern. Austreng received $5,000 and a beautiful crystal for the win, while Johnson collected $2,500 for 2nd along with a runner-up crystal.

Brent Watson was our high qualifier with an impressive 1428, followed by Ernie Marr III with 1394, and Bobby Nelson with 1388. The cut to make the top 32 was 1266 (Dave Rokicki). Strikes were hard to come by on the 43ft lane pattern, as the field during the 6-game qualifying round averaged 198.69.
