Congratulations to Craig Bosco on his 2nd SSO title as he defeated Hall of Famer Mike Calvin 255-215 at Oak Lanes in Westland. In the championship match, Bosco took an early lead starting with the front 4 strikes, while Calvin opened in the 2nd frame chopping the 6-10 spare. However, after three straight 10 pins by Bosco, Calvin charged back with five strikes in a row himself. A 10 pin in the 8th frame and a 9 pin in the 10th for Calvin, which he missed, proved his undoing. Bosco threw the first two strikes in the 10th to make a close match look like a runaway. Bosco received the first-place check of $1,000, while Calvin, looking for his 11th SSO title, collected $500 for second. We had 83 entries at Oak Lanes, thank you to everyone for your continued support of the SSO!

During qualifying, Ken Wyatt led the way with an impressive 6 game block of 1445, followed by Gary Duarard with 1417, and Jeff Austreng 1414. High game of the day was 290 shot by Craig Bosco in game 1 of qualifying. This was an important high game, as communicated earlier in the month, Jason Papa of Oak Lanes was giving a $500 bonus for the highest game bowled in the six-game qualifying round. Lew Ansara matched that offer, meaning Bosco walked away with an additional $1000!! Thank you, Jason Papa! And of course, thank you Lew Ansara!

The cut to make the top 20 was 1187 (John Gee). Our extras out of the cut to move on in the elimination rounds: In the Senior division (50+) Kevin Keys (1178) and Dennis Madden (1177); Super Senior division (60+) Dave Schumacher (1172), Carl Harden (1150), Frank Robinsons III (1143); In the super-super senior division (70+) Mike Lucente (1165), Ed Austreng (1163) and Larry Wilson (1156); In the women’s division was Cheryl Helms (1037).
