Westland Bowl Over/Under Doubles – October 3, 2026

By Ken Wyatt | October 6, 2026

Congratulations to Ravone Bentley and Will Gray for winning the SSO Over/Under doubles tournament at Westland Bowl in Westland. Bentley and Gray defeated Trent Marner and Jean Perez 426-409. In the title match, Marner and Perez took the lead with strikes early, while Bentley had two opens in the first four frames. Will Gray kept them in the match with an early triple, but the turning point was the 5th frame, when Perez left the 6-7 split which tightened up the match. Bentley took advantage throwing a four-bagger in frames 6-9, while Gray stayed clean the rest of the way. Marner also opened in the 8th frame, however the match was still in doubt, as Gray needed a double to seal the victory in the 10th frame. Gray got the first strike, however, left a 10 pin on the second shot, giving Perez a chance to double and win the match. Perez threw the first strike, but went high his second shot, ending their chance at victory. Bentley, winning his 1st SSO title, and Gray received $5000 for their first-place finish while Marner, looking for his 3rd SSO title, and Perez collected $2500 for second.

We had 96 teams vying for the title at Westland Bowl. Scores were very good during the qualifying rounds, as the Over 50 bowlers averaged 200.52, and the Under 50 bowlers averaged 209.96. It was a tight race for high qualifier, but Chris Kliczinski and Charlie Zelechowski, who finished qualifying with back-to-back 279s, led the way with 2717. Right behind were Bill Kazmierski/Terry Syring and Vern Peterson/Devon Osborn with 2711, and Hall of Famer Gerald Johnson with his son Dre Johnson with 2710. The cut to make the 28-team elimination round was 2584 (Bentley and Gray).

High scores during qualifying included 300 games by LeAndre Thomas, A. J. Rice, and Justin O’Hara. High game for the seniors in qualifying was Dave Schumacher, Tim Bell and Brian Newcomb with 279.
