Congratulations to Hall of Famer Larry Walker for winning his 13th SSO title at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park. Walker defeated Travis Franz 215-189 in the title match. In the championship match, both bowlers got out of the gates slow, in fact, through 6 frames both bowlers only managed one strike with one open. The turning point was a ball change by Walker in the 7th frame. Larry threw a 4-bagger to put the game out of reach. Walker received $1,000 for his first-place finish while Franz, bowling in only his second SSO tournament, collected $500 for second. We had another great turnout of 112 bowlers at Thunderbowl Lanes.

This was our SSO Grand Final which drew 115 bowlers looking to bring home the winner’s share of $2,000! Stus defeated Bob DeCheney Jr. 247-241 in the championship match to bring home the title. Ironically Troy’s last win was right here at Astro Lanes, also in the Grand Finals. The 5-man stepladder featured top seed Stus, 2nd seed DeCheney, 3rd seed Jeff Austreng, 4th seed Eddie Mintz and 5th seed, last year’s Grand Finals winner Jerry Sikora.

Larry won his first SSO title at 5 Star Lanes in Sterling Heights by defeating Todd Pawlak (also looking for his first title) 249-237. The championship match was neck and neck the whole way. Pawlak missed a 10 pin late, while Salvati struck out from the 9th frame on to finish with 249. Pawlak still had a chance to win getting up in the 10th, however, a pesky 7 pin stood on his first shot allowing Salvati to earn the victory. Salvati received $1,100 for his win, while Pawlak settled for $600 with his 2nd place finish.

Calvin and Leavitt defeated Troy Stus and Ed Burbo 448-380. In the championship match, it was Leavitt who started with a spare and then proceeded to throw the next six strikes to put their team in lead which they would never relinquish. Calvin, winning his 6th SSO Title, and Leavitt received $5000 for their first-place finish while Stus and Burbo collected $2500 for second.
Congratulations to Jerry Sikora for winning his 3rd SSO title at Town & Country Lanes in Westland. Sikora defeated Dale Hofmeister 269-247. In the championship match, Sikora started off with a spare and then proceeded to throw the next eight strikes to put the game out of reach. Sikora received $1,000 for his first-place finish while Hofmeister, looking for back-to-back titles - winning his 3rd SSO tournament last month at 300 Bowl, collected $500 for second. We had 70 bowlers
looking for a title at Town & Country.

Hofmeister received $1,000 for his first place finish while Stus, looking for his 5th SSO title, collected $500 for second. We had a great turnout of 100 bowlers for this event!
Congratulations to Randy Warnken for breaking through in his first ever SSO tournament to win the title at Century Bowl in Waterford. Randy defeated Dennis Hansen 244-228 in a tight final match. Warnken received $1,000 for his first place finish while Hansen collected $500 for second. We had 74 bowlers attempting to win their first title, which is a pretty good turnout considering the SSO now has 86 bowlers with at least one title!
Congratulations to Marty Sanders and Norman Smith on winning our inaugural Match-Up Doubles held at Lodge Lanes. Sanders and Smith defeated Mike Kereluk and Larry Walker 414-406 to take home the title. This was Sanders second SSO win, while Smith earned his first SSO title. The title match looked like a runaway until both Sanders and Smith opened in the 10th frame. Walker struck out in the 10th giving Kereluk a chance to win with a double. Mike got the first strike but left a 4 pin on his second shot ending the come back.
Hop on the Brian Newcomb train everyone! Brian captured his 1st SSO title last month at Astro Lanes, and continued his hot bowling at Woodland Lanes in Plymouth. In a tight final match, Newcomb defeated Jerry Sikora 268-257 to take home his second title and a check for $1,000. Sikora, looking for his 3rd SSO title, managed to find his way to the elimination round via the Super Seniors added outside of the cut and made the most of it with his 2nd place and received $500 for his efforts.
